Acquire the model from its official source
Follow the Manufacturer catalog's source link, or go directly to the vendor's official site. Review the terms and download the model from the vendor.
Import and review the model
- Open the Library panel, choose New Part, select Import SPICE model, and choose Continue.
- Under Choose vendor SPICE model files, upload one ZIP or multiple related textual SPICE files.
- If the bundle exposes several candidate components, select the intended
.subcktor.modelcandidate. - Review the component, category, symbol, reference prefix, Parameters, and compatibility result.
- Compare Pin mapping with Model source. Drag a Symbol pin to another row to correct a mapping.
- When the source and mapping are correct, choose Create Part. Edit the Symbol and Parameters, then choose Save to My Library.
Import creates one SPICE Part at a time. You can edit its symbol, labels, pin types, metadata, and Parameters before saving it.
Read the compatibility result correctly
| Status | Meaning | Consequence or limit |
|---|---|---|
| Source accepted | The files and selected model can be imported. | Continue to the simulator check. |
| Loads in simulator | ngspice can load the selected model. | Test the model in a representative circuit. |
| Compatibility not checked | The simulator check did not finish. | Try the check again before relying on the model. |
| Simulator load failed | ngspice could not load the selected model. | Review the reported error and choose a corrected model. |
The load check instantiates the selected entrypoint without solving an operating point. A supply-sensitive model still needs its real bias circuit for a meaningful test.
Compatibility mode is not a quality rating
Native ngspice, PSpice compatibility, LTspice compatibility, or a combined mode identifies the syntax used by the model. It does not rank the model or certify its accuracy.
After import, create a representative circuit and compare the quantities that matter: bias point, gain and phase, switching behavior, temperature assumptions, limits, and any vendor reference plots or datasheet conditions. Treat those checks as model qualification for your use case.
Supported files
- Textual SPICE files or ZIP archives containing a supported
.subcktor.model. - Two to 32 external subcircuit terminals.
.includeor.libreferences when the referenced file is included in the upload.- Supported ngspice, PSpice, LTspice, and XSPICE syntax.
OhmSpice ignores recognized simulator projects, reports, and other non-model files in a ZIP archive.
Current limitations
- No encrypted or binary models, Verilog-A, OSDI, arbitrary native/XSPICE binaries, or executable model content.
- No dependencies outside the uploaded files.
- No batch creation of several Parts from one upload.
Before sharing a model
Confirm that the vendor's terms allow the model to be shared. A project includes the Parts it uses, so recipients can simulate the project without importing the model again.
