SPICE compatibility

Load the model, review its terminals, and test it under the operating conditions that matter.

Compatibility profiles

A SPICE model can use native ngspice syntax or dialects commonly produced for PSpice and LTspice. OhmSpice selects the matching compatibility profile during import. The profile identifies supported syntax; it does not certify electrical accuracy.

Displayed profileUse it when the source contains
Native ngspiceStandard ngspice or SPICE syntax with no dialect-specific handling.
PSpicePSpice-compatible library syntax that can use the standard compatibility path.
PSpice (all compatibility)Supported PSpice forms that also need complete-deck preprocessing.
LTspice compatibilityLTspice-compatible libraries or supported LTspice device forms.

What is checked

  • The upload contains a supported textual .subckt or .model.
  • Referenced .include and .lib files are present in the upload.
  • The selected model and terminal order are shown before the Part is saved.
  • ngspice attempts to load the selected model.

Unsupported files

  • Encrypted or binary model files, Verilog-A, OSDI, or arbitrary native/XSPICE binaries.
  • Dependencies outside the uploaded files.
  • Executable model content or files that require another simulator installation.
  • A .lib extension by itself. The file contents must parse as a supported textual model source.

OhmSpice ignores recognized simulator projects, reports, and other non-model files in a ZIP archive.

Interpret the load result

StatusMeaningNext step
Source acceptedThe files and selected model can be imported.Review the terminal mapping, then create the Part.
Loads in simulatorngspice can load the selected model.Test it in a representative circuit.
Compatibility not checkedThe check did not finish.Try again before relying on the model.
Simulator load failedngspice could not load the selected model.Review the error and choose a corrected model.

A successful load check does not prove convergence in your circuit, correct bias behavior, agreement with a datasheet, or accuracy in every supported analysis. Review the Part's model scope and qualify the analyses you need.

Compatibility and analyses

On a SPICE Circuit sheet, the available analyses areBias Point, DC Sweep, AC, and Transient. A model can load successfully and still be unsuitable for one of those analyses. Run the analysis that matches your use case, inspect its result, and keep the model's stated assumptions with your project.
